Classic Mojito Ingredients
I have always been intimidated to make this cocktail, as the simple syrup seems like an extra step that complicates things. But if you can buy it, why make it???? Simple syrup can be purchased at many grocery stores alongside the cocktail mixers, or in the liquor store just as easily as your white rum. Aside from the white rum and simple syrup, you will need fresh mint, limes, and sparkling water to make the mojito.
How to Make this Mojito
In a tall glass, drop in the mint leaves then squeeze the lime over the leaves. Sometimes I cut the lime into wedges and squeeze by hand or in a hurry, I’ll use a citrus squeezer where I have 2 halves of the lime and squeeze one at a time. Drop in a couple of lime wedges if you want or save it for the garnish at the end. Muddle these together to bring out the mint flavor into the lime juice.
Add 2 ounces of white rum and 1/2 ounce of simple syrup. You can also tailor the amount of simple syrup to the desired sweetness. Give it a quick stir to mix these together, or you could also shake these ingredients in a cocktail shaker at this stage. If you have shaken in a cocktail shaker, transfer back to your tall glass and fill the glass with ice. Top with sparkling water and give it another stir.
Add some mint leaves and a lime wedge for garnish. Enjoy!
