This little Melty Ham & Swiss Sliders recipe takes the ham sandwich to the next level.  The sweetness of the Hawaiian roll combined with the savory flavors of the Swiss cheese, ham, and buttery seasoning mixture make this a crowd pleaser for any party.  The butter seasoning element of these crisps up the edges of the rolls and makes them even more delicious.

Baked cheesy ham slidersDo you ever feel like when you go to a party full of finger foods that you just keep snacking and snacking without ever feeling full?  Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Texas Style Queso Dip and Guacamole!  But I also appreciate when there are a couple of items that aren’t an endless bowl of chips and dip… something with a little substance.  These Melty Ham & Swiss sliders are just that.

The Slider Ingredients

For this sliders recipe, you will need 24 Hawaiian rolls, 1 pound thinly sliced ham (we recommend ham off the bone from the deli), 1 pound thinly sliced Swiss cheese, butter, poppy seeds, dried onion seasoning (or onion powder), dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce.

How to Make these Melty Ham and Swiss Sliders

To Assemble the Sliders

First, preheat your oven to 350°. Then grease the bottom of 2 baking dishes (Use a pyrex or deeper baking dish so that the sliders are held in place). *If taking to a party, consider preparing them in disposable deep pans, as I did in this case.

Next, cut slider buns in half while they remain connected to each other.  I like to cut through 6 or 12 at a time.

Put the bottom layer of buns in the greased pans.  Next, layer ham and cheese on bottom half of the rolls, splitting up the ham and cheese between the 2 baking dishes.  No need to place the ham specific to 1 roll.  Just layer it across the bottom of all buns flat.  They will be cut apart later.  Once the ham and cheese is placed on the rolls, put the bun tops on top of the ham and cheese.

For the Buttery Topping Sauce

First, combine butter, mustard, poppy seeds, onion seasoning (whether minced dried or powder), and Worcestershire sauce in a small sauce pan.  Then, melt and stir until well combined.  This step can also be done in the microwave by melting the butter, then mixing in other ingredients.

Once the sauce is finished, drizzle the butter mixture over the tops of the slider rolls using a large spoon.   Then, cover each baking dish with foil, tenting if needed to keep the foil from touching the buttery tops.

Sliders prepared for baking

Bake at 350° for 30 minutes, or until cheese melts.  Finally, uncover and cook for 2 – 3 more minutes.  Buns should be a little crispy around the edges with the butter.  Cut apart and enjoy!

Tips and Suggestions for the Melty Ham & Swiss Sliders

  • You can prepare these in advance.  After drizzling the butter over the top, cover and refrigerate until time to bake.  This will harden the butter and it will still bake great.
  • Butter should seep into the bottom of the pan, which makes the bottoms of these buttery and crunchy.  If for some reason you need more sauce, just mix up another batch of it or 1/2 batch to make sure you have enough, but we also don’t want it to be swimming in butter and too soggy.
