Description

We recommend using a juicer, like this Breville Juice Fountain Plus from Amazon, for making these health-boosting shots.  A juicer is preferred as it easily separates the pulp and unnecessary parts of the produce while squeezing out the rest for the shots.  I have prepared it in a blender before, however, it is less time-efficient and requires much more clean-up.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large red apple
  • 2 whole, large carrots
  • 1 orange
  • 1 pound of fresh ginger
  • 12 ounces of fresh turmeric
  • 2 lemons
  • 78 T honey (one squirt per shot for natural sweetness to balance out the tangy citrus, ginger, and turmeric flavor)

Instructions

  1. First, use a vegetable brush to brush any loose dirt from the ginger and turmeric roots.  Then place all the produce in a large bowl of water to soak and clean them.  Let them soak in the water for 10 minutes up to 1 hour.   Remove them from the water brush off any remaining dirt and place them on a kitchen towel to dry.
  2. Next, cut the peel off the orange and lemons, leaving just the fruit.  Cut the apple into large chunks. There is no need to peel the apple, carrots, ginger, or turmeric unless you want to.
  3. Now, put each piece of the produce through the juicer.  This should yield approximately 16 ounces of juice, which can be divided into 7 – 8, 2-ounce shots.

Notes

  • Easier Clean-Up Tip: Use a small plastic grocery store sack and place it into the pulp container of your juicer, then put it in place just like normal.  This creates an easier clean-up when everything is finished.
  • These health-boosting ginger turmeric shots are meant to be a daily addition to your vitamin regimen. One per day for about 8 days.  These are safely stored for this amount of time, but not much longer.
