This Christmas Caprese is a perfect appetizer for holiday meals; it is fresh and light with a festive visual appeal.
Christmas Caprese Ingredients
For this fun holiday appetizer, you will need 10 ounces of fresh mozzarella, fresh basil leaves, ripe Roma tomatoes, olive oil, salt, pepper, and balsamic glaze.
Preparing this Holiday Appetizer
Begin by rinsing the tomatoes and basil.
Next, slice the tomatoes and mozzarella into 1/4 inch or less, and julienne the basil into thin slices. To julienne cut the basil, stack up 4 leaves at a time, roll them lengthwise together, then thinly cut across the basil into thin strips.
Start the candy cane by layering the mozzarella and tomatoes upward from the bottom, towards the curve, and ending at the candy cane curve. What’s great about this is you can layer as tightly or loosely based on the size of your platter and the amount of caprese you wish to make.
Next, lightly drizzle olive oil over the cheese and mozzarella, then drizzle the balsamic glaze.
Then, grind salt and pepper over the top. Gift yourself some new salt and pepper grinders, like these, for this holiday season. Lastly, decorate with basil leaves and julienned basil, and ENJOY!
