Description

These tender, cheesy Grèyere scalloped potatoes are a favorite addition to holiday meals or a side for a nice steak or grilled tri-tip. With only a few ingredients, this delicious side dish brings great flavor and just general happiness. Try it, you’ll see!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 lb gold potatoes
  • 45 ounces Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, pressed
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. First, preheat the oven to 400°.
  2. Rinse and scrub the potatoes clean. Then, peel them and thinly slice them.
  3. Bring the whipping cream and pressed garlic to a slow boil over medium-high heat in a saucepan.  While this is heating up, you can butter or spray a medium-sized baking pan, like this 10.5X 7.5 Staub, or an oval baking dish of your preference.
  4. Shred 4-5 ounces of Gruyère cheese and set aside.
  5. Once the whipping cream and garlic come to a boil, gently mix in the sliced potatoes.  Reduce the heat to medium. Cover and let cook until the liquid returns to a boil. This should take about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Next scoop half of the potatoes into the baking dish. Sprinkle with salt and pepper generously.  Add half of the shredded Gruyère cheese to the top of the scalloped potatoes. Add the rest of the potatoes over the top, and sprinkle with salt and pepper generously. Then add the remaining cheese to the top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes at 400° (potatoes should be tender). Remove the foil and broil until the top of the potatoes are golden brown (about 10 minutes). Remove from the oven and let stand for about 10 minutes before serving.
