Description

If you are celebrating the holidays in a warm place or you just prefer the refreshing taste of a margarita, you must try this pomegranate margarita. This is a delicious combination of pomegranate’s seasonal flavor with a traditional margarita’s tangy sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ounces of silver tequila
  • 1/2 ounce Cointreau
  • 1 ounce pomegranate juice
  • 1 quick squeeze of agave nectar
  • 1 lime
  • 1/2 mandarin orange

Optional Garnishes:

  •  a salted rim
  • mandarin or lime wheel/ slice
  • pomegranate seeds
  • sprig of fresh rosemary

Instructions

  1. For 1 margarita, you’ll need 1 lime (2 if they’re small), and 1/2 of a mandarin or clementine if available.  Squeeze or muddle all of the juice out of the lime and 1/2 mandarin into your cocktail shaker.
  2. If you want the rim of your glass salted, use one of the lime pieces and rim the glass with lime juice. Then press the rim of the glass down into your margarita salt.
  3. Measure 2 oz of silver tequila, 1 oz pomegranate juice, a quick squeeze of agave, and 1/2 ounce of Cointreau into your cocktail shaker.
  4. Now we are ready to shake up the margie. Fill the shaker with ice.  Shake until the shaker is freezing cold and frosty on the outside. Pour into your salty glass.
  5. Garnish with lime, mandarin, pomegranate seeds, rosemary, and/ or dehydrated oranges or blood oranges.

CHEERS!

Notes

  • Orange Liqueur Tip:  I most often use Cointreau for the orange liqueur in margaritas, however, Grand Marnier or something similar will also be delicious.  There are some similar versions of these which are good but cheaper.  Make a trip to your local liquor store and ask for the knock-off of Cointreau.   I have tried one called Liqueur D’Orange made by Dolfi and imported from France which is almost half the price of Cointreau.
