Freshen up your summertime cocktail list with this watermelon-infused tequila. Easy to make with just a few simple steps, and you will have a summer favorite on hand for happy hours and backyard barbecues.
Watermelon-Infused Tequila Ingredients
You will need 2 pounds of seedless watermelon or around 3 cups of watermelon cubes. (Keep in mind you will need 2 lbs of fruit, not a 2 lb watermelon with rind.) To save time, you can buy the already cut watermelon if the pieces are fresh and bright red. Also, this recipe calls for a 750 mL bottle of silver tequila. I use Hornitos Silver.
To make and store the watermelon-infused tequila, you will need a large glass container with a lid, like this large mason jar from Amazon. Make sure it’s a size that can fit in the refrigerator.
How to Infuse Your Tequila with Watermelon
First, cut the watermelon into 1/2 – 1 inch cubes. Remove any seeds. Put the cubes of watermelon into the glass container.
Next, pour the 750 ML of tequila over the top of the fruit into the glass container. Seal with the lid. If you do not have a lid, cover with foil and a layer of plastic wrap. Then, refrigerate for 24 hours.
Before enjoying, we need to strain the tequila from the fruit. To do this, place a bowl under the mesh strainer or sieve and strain the fruit from the tequila. The larger one of this sieve set from Amazon will do the job!
This step will give the tequila a smoother look and texture when using it to make cocktails.
Once strained, use a funnel to transfer it to a sealable container, like this glass bottle from Amazon, so it’s easy to pour while making drinks. You could also use the tequila bottle for storing it, but make sure it’s airtight.
Store the watermelon-infused tequila in the refrigerator for up to 2- 3 weeks. It will last beyond 2 weeks and not get moldy due to the high alcohol content of the tequila, but it may not taste as fresh.
Optional: You can toss the watermelon out, OR use it as a party favor or joke for snacking with your friends. Put toothpicks in the watermelon chunks, and your guests will enjoy an intensely strong bite of this summertime fruit. Caution: Don’t leave it around the kids!
