Need a fun snack for a holiday event or kid’s party? This party mix is a fun, easy recipe for kids AND you can clean out reserves of cereal in the process.  My daughter and I came up with our recipe doing a pantry clean out one day.  She had a blast measuring and mixing, and she even tried a few things she had been hesitant with before. This party mix definitely started out as an experiment but in the end, we were surprised at how yummy the final product was.  A perfect blend of salty and sweet, fit for any kid related celebration.

This party mix could truly be any combination of your favorite cereals with pretzels, nuts and then somethings sweet.  Our favorite has ended up being Rice Chex, Kix, stick pretzels, cashews, and m&ms.  To give it the extra sweet and flavorful crunch, you mix these together with olive oil, sugar and cinnamon.  After toasting it in the oven, we add marshmallows (because they’re awesome) and for the extra texture contrast.

Quick and Easy Process- Meant for Kids

Making this party mix can be really quick but also I love the process of allowing the kids to do it all.  It is a great opportunity to practice some functional skills and independence.  All they need to do is manage a few simple measurements of the dry ingredients, mix them together with olive oil, sugar and cinnamon and pour it onto a baking sheet. Then, they toast it in the oven for about 8 minutes on 325. After baking, allow the mix to cool on the pan.  Once it is cool, you can store it in air tight container. We add the marshmallows when it is time to serve.

Party Mix Tips

  • Add mini marshmallows to the top of the mix that you are ready to serve. Do not store extra party mix with marshmallows, as they will harden and seem stale quickly.

Notes

  • We wait to add marshmallows only to the top of the mix we are ready to serve, as if you mix marshmallows in before storing left overs, they will get hard/ stale quickly.
