If you are looking to mix up your grilling menu this spring and summer, these turkey burgers are a great place to start.  Orange peel zest and juice adds moisture and flavor to the ground turkey.  Be sure to check out the 7 Grilling Tips for Beginners post if you would like tips on learning the art of the grill!

a bottle of honey, dijon mustard, mayonaise, with fresh green onions, 1 head of c

Fresh ginger and orange juice add a bold and fresh flavor to the burger patties and the breadcrumbs are essential for helping the turkey meat maintain moisture.

Of course, if you are on a time crunch, you could nix making the orange ginger mayo sauce.  But, it is a delightful addition to this burger. Due to the orange juice and honey, the orange ginger mayonnaise sauce is slightly sweet but adds great depth of flavor to a typically mild meat.

Variations to this Turkey Burger Worth Trying

I personally love to add sautéed red onions on top, in addition to the orange ginger mayonnaise. They seem to finish off the flavor well. We use sesame buns a lot at our house, but grilling a sourdough English muffin for the bun also tastes great.  If you prefer less carbs in the evenings, wrap your turkey burger in some iceberg lettuce instead of a bun…delicious.

Suitable Side Ideas for Turkey Burgers

  • This can be an easy quick weeknight meal if prepped a bit ahead. I like to prepare the meat and sauce between commitments in the day or the night before.  Then all I have to do is grill the burgers and sauté onions right before dinner.  Make it extra easy by serving these burgers with potato chips and some raw veggies.
  • If you have more time for sides, potato salad or roasted sweet potatoes could be a great accompaniment to this burger.  My kids also love this served with regular mac and cheese!
  •  When there is time, we tend to add a little green to the meal, such as with this Summer Spinach Salad, Cucumber Medley Salad, or Roasted Broccoli.
